Spleen Qi Tonic for Spleen 'Chi' Deficiency
In Chinese medicine, the Spleen is paired with the Stomach and is related with food assimilation in the body and fluid transformation. The Spleen function in this context is very different from the way that the spleen organ is viewed in Western medicine. Spleen Qi Deficiency is associated with internal Dampness, weight gain, digestive issues, and the emotions related to the Earth Element.
To a modern Westerner, the Chinese concept of Organ System functions might seem unusual as the Chinese Medical concept of Organs lack emphasis on a physical structure. Although many terms used when speaking of Organs are similar to Western concepts, they do not refer to the specific tissue necessarily, but rather to semi-abstract concepts of interrelated functions. It is not necessary to have all of the indications of Spleen Qi Deficiency , but a multitude of symptoms would begin to suggest a pattern of Spleen Qi Deficiency:
Spleen Function
Controls the raising of Qi
Contains the blood
Transforms and transports foods and fluids
(Pancreas is part of the Spleen organ system)
Common Symptoms of Spleen Imbalances:
- Symptoms worsen with wet weather.
- Scallops on the edges of the tongue.
- Difficulty waking in the morning.
Restore the Middle Way formula for Spleen Qi Deficiency is not a stimulant blend, rather, they restore the body's own ability to correctly assimilate food. In clinic, we have been able to measure a persons insulin resistance (when glucose is rejected by cells as use as fuel, and then re-circulated to the liver to be stored as fat) with lab tests. The use of Spleen Qi Tonics over a number of months reverses insulin resistance so that the body utilizes glucose for energy and building muscle and tissue. One can easily see how, in the face of insulin resistance, the body begins to store fat, regardless of diet. This is one way that the Spleen function improves the way you utilize food.
