Powerful herbs help to alleviate 'heat toxins' in Chinese medicine including coptis root, which is very similar to goldenseal root in its actions for sinus infections and the reduction of sinus mucus membrane inflammation. A sinus infection would be indicated with sinus drainage with color. Typically, the darker the phlegm, the more serious the infection.
'Heat Toxins', or infections are treated with cold herbs that should only be utilized for 2-3 weeks. They are not necessarily toxic herbs, but cold herbs can damage Spleen Qi (digestive system) when used for too long.
